PRESS RELEASE: NSA LAUNCHES WORKSHOP SERIES ON CRITICAL NATIONAL INFORMATION INFRASTRUCTURE PROTECTION

Abuja, Nigeria - The National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has inaugurated a significant workshop series aimed at enhancing the protection and resilience of Nigeria’s Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII-P). This initiative follows the recently approved Order for the Designation and Protection of Critical National Information Infrastructure (DPCO).

The inaugural event gathered stakeholders from government, regulatory bodies, and private organizations to develop strategies for safeguarding vital information assets. In his opening remarks, the NSA emphasized the critical need to secure sectors such as telecommunications, banking, energy, transportation, and defense, highlighting the potential grave consequences of disruptions. He also reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s cybersecurity framework.

The National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre (NCCC) is leading the execution of CNII-P initiatives in collaboration with relevant parties. Key efforts include developing a Critical National Information Infrastructure Protection Plan (CNIIPP) and establishing a Trusted Information Sharing Network (TISN) to promote unified cybersecurity approaches.

Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), delivered the keynote address, underscoring the financial losses due to fiber cuts and cyber threats. He stressed the urgency of implementing the Executive Order on CNII Protection and called for collective action to safeguard telecommunications infrastructure.

Other dignitaries in they goodwill messages commended the NSA’s leadership, emphasizing the importance of inter-sectoral collaboration to enhance resilience against cyber threats such as online fraud and cyber espionage. Mr. Saad Abubakar, National Coordinator of the NCCC, presented the Centre’s strategic initiatives and highlighted the necessity of capacity building among CNII custodians.

This workshop series underscores Nigeria's proactive stance on cybersecurity, uniting stakeholders across sectors to secure and enhance the nation’s critical information infrastructure for a resilient digital future.
